Sharing a space
Give people access to a space — including people who don't have a tela account yet. Open a space's ⋯ menu → Share.
Only a space owner can change who has access. Everyone else sees the dialog read-only.
Roles

A space always keeps at least one owner — tela refuses to remove or demote the last one.
Share with a person
The Share with a person box does both jobs. Start typing: matching tela users appear in the list; if you type a full email address nobody in the directory uses, the list offers to invite it. Pick the role, then Add / Invite.
What happens next depends on the address:
- Already a tela account → they get access immediately, and a notification (in-app + email — see [[Notifications & following]]). Nothing for them to accept.
- No account yet → tela emails them an invitation naming you and the space. When they sign up with that address and confirm it, the space is waiting for them — you don't have to do anything else. If they already have an account under that address they can accept the link directly.
[!NOTE] Invitations are tied to the address they were sent to. Forwarding the link doesn't work — accepting requires being signed in with that exact confirmed email. Links expire after 14 days.
Invited addresses appear under Pending invitations until they're used, with a bin icon to revoke one. Re-inviting the same address replaces the outstanding invitation with a fresh link.
Share with a whole team
Under Organizations & groups you can grant a whole organization or a group inside one — everyone in it gets the role you pick (editor or viewer; ownership stays with people). This is the fast path when a team already exists in tela; see [[Administration]] for creating orgs and groups.
People with access at the top of the dialog is the authoritative answer to who can see this, and why — each person's effective role plus where it comes from (direct, or via an org or group). Someone reached by two routes gets the higher role.
Publishing to the web
Sharing is about members. To make a space readable by anyone with no login at all, use Public access in the same dialog — see [[Publishing & public URLs]].
Agents can invite too
An agent connected over MCP can onboard someone end to end with the invite_to_space tool (space id + email + role). It behaves exactly like the dialog: an existing account is added right away, an unknown address gets the invitation email. It needs a write-scoped key belonging to an owner of that space, and every invitation is recorded in the audit log. See [[Agents & MCP]].
