Notifications & following
tela tells you when something needs your attention — in the app and by email — and lets you follow the pages and spaces you care about.
What you get notified about

Each arrives in-app (the bell in the top bar — a badge counts unread, the panel lists them) and, if you've set it up, by email.
[!NOTE] Instance admins also get a New signup notification (in-app and email) when a new account confirms its email — handy for keeping an eye on who's joining. It's opt-out per channel like any other, under Settings → Notifications (the row shows for admins only).
Following (watching)
Click the bell icon in any page or space header to follow it:
- Follow a page → you're notified when it changes.
- Follow a space → you're notified of changes and of new pages added to it.
[!NOTE] Autowatch is on by default: you automatically follow a page when you create, edit, or comment on it, so you stay in the loop without thinking about it. Turn it off in Settings → Notifications to follow only manually.
Settings → Following lists everything you follow, with one-click unfollow.
Notification emails are on by default (for accounts with an email address) and reach you when you're not in the app. Each email shows who did what, on which page, with a link straight to it — and page-update emails include a short "what changed" preview.
Manage them in Settings → Notifications: a per-event, per-channel (in-app / email) grid — turn any combination off. Every email also has a "Manage notification emails" link in its footer.
[!IMPORTANT] Email requires the instance to have SMTP configured. On the managed cloud it's ready; self-hosting, set
TELA_SMTP_*(see [[Self-Hosting]]). Until then, notifications stay in-app only.
Page-update frequency
A followed page that's edited many times in a row won't flood you: the in-app entry collapses to one unread until you look, and update emails are limited to one per page within a short window.
