How to upgrade

Upgrading is self-serve — no sales call. All billing for telawiki.com runs through Polar, the merchant of record. Polar handles the card, VAT, and receipts; tela grants access via webhook once payment clears.

[!NOTE] Self-hosted? Billing is off on self-hosted instances. An instance admin assigns any tier from Settings → Plan & Usage or via the set-plan CLI command, and unlocks Enterprise features with a license key (Settings → License). This page covers telawiki.com only — see [[Plans & billing]] for the self-host editions.

Upgrade your personal account (Free → Personal)

  1. Open Settings → Plan & Usage.
  2. Under your current plan, choose Monthly ($8/mo) or Yearly ($72/yr, equivalent to $6/mo).
  3. Click Get Personal.
  4. Complete checkout on Polar — enter payment details and confirm. Polar handles any applicable taxes.
  5. You're redirected back to tela; your plan activates within a few seconds.

[!TIP] Entitlement is granted by Polar's payment webhook, not by the redirect. If you close the tab mid-flow, payment still clears and your plan upgrades within seconds. The Plan & Usage screen refreshes once it does.

Upgrade an org (Free → Team)

A Team plan runs on an organization — and you can create one yourself, no sales call.

1. Create a team. In Settings → Plan & Usage, under "Looking for the Team plan?", click Create a team and name it. You become its admin, and it starts free on the org tier.

2. Invite your teammates. Open the team's page (Settings → Organizations → your team → Members) and invite people by email. They get a link to join and land in the team automatically once they sign up or accept — even if they don't have a tela account yet. Pending invites show there until accepted; you can revoke any.

3. Upgrade to Team. Back in Settings → Plan & Usage, on the organization's card choose Monthly ($10/seat/mo) or Yearly ($96/seat/yr, equivalent to $8/seat/mo) and click Get Team. Complete checkout on Polar — the seat count is pre-filled from your members; adjust it before confirming.

After the subscription is active, the seat count updates automatically as members are added or removed.

Converting from the trial

Converting from the 30-day Personal trial just starts the subscription; you don't need to wait for the trial to end. Follow the personal-account steps above — your active features stay uninterrupted.
